The Peace Education Center invites applications for its internship program. Spring internships run from February 5, 2009- May 1, 2010. Come make a difference and join a community of committed activists in their quest for peace and justice.
Applications for Peace Education Center Internships are due January 29, 2010.
Responsibilities:
Peace Education Center internship assignments vary depending on our event schedule and students’ skill sets. There will be opportunities for graphic and web design, volunteer and donor management, event organization, outreach, and networking.
The successful applicant will be a creative thinker who is ready think about, talk about, and act on core values of a peaceful and just world. Applicants should also:
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Access, excel, and email correspondence
- Be friendly and outgoing
- Be comfortable representing the values of the Peace Education Center to the community
The following skills are desired, but are not a requirement:
- Web writing and design
- Some prior work with community outreach organizations
- Research and writing skills are a must; interns may be asked to survey a broad spectrum of information about a topic, then condense that information into briefs for the board and general public.
Some areas that align with the PEC’s mission include:
- Immigrant rights
- Israel-Palestine peace and justice work
- Juvenile justice projects
- Youth Outreach– our Youth Outreach! Program spends time going into high schools in the area, speaking to youth about alternatives to military enlistment and about the effects of the culture of war on society.
- New Media: The Peace Education Center uses social media and independent media as a way to reach out to the peace and justice community. Students interested in the intersections between social/ independent media and community organizing could easily develop projects with the PEC.
- Environmental Justice work
- LGTBQI Equity work
About the Peace Education Center:
The purpose of the PEC is to promote peace with justice through serving as a resources center and information clearinghouse; assisting in organizing, coordinating, and creating networks for peace and justice activities; and offering educational programming and services to groups and individuals in the Lansing area. The Peace Center also works with state, national and local peace and justice groups.
