Please make note of this news and event directly from our friends at GLUNA (Greater Lansing United Nations Association):
Lansing-area residents will soon join in a global demonstration of their commitment to promote peace, locally and globally.
The 2010 International Peace Day celebration in East Lansing will be one of hundreds staged worldwide in support of peace and understanding among nations. The event will be hosted by the Greater Lansing United Nations Association (GLUNA) and co-sponsored by the Art of Living Foundation and is titled “Let Peace Begin With Me.”
“We want to show the world that we in Michigan support the ideals of the US Constitution and UN Charter in the midst of the global furor over the threat to burn Korans,” said Lansing UNA President Joseph Hess. “Peace Day gives us a global stage to show our commitment to the principles of peace, justice and respect for all peoples.”
The Peace Day event will be held on Sunday, September 19 at 7:00 PM at the Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbott Rd., East Lansing. The celebration will feature a keynote address by Natalie Kaharick, Director of Youth Peacebuilding of the Art of Living Foundation. There will also be awards to local citizens for their commitment to peace.
The general pubic (youth & adult) is invited to attend the celebration with family and friends as a personal statement of commitment to world peace. No admission charge.
The International Day of Peace was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981 to engage the global community in the movement for world peace, and to advance the role of the United Nations as its international leader.
