"Tom, I have hardly seen you since the Abrahamic Community Days but have thought of you often. You grace my photo album from days of yore. Even though it's been such a long time and I live a half a continent away, today I experience the world as a colder place without you. You do leave us with such inspiration and an awesome model of integrity. Thank you". Becky and the boys are in my heart.

Dear Family and Friends,,

I am grateful for Tom's involvement in the peace movement and the public protest at the Capit0l Building at Noon on Fridays. His presence helped also to recruit other persons to that little weekly gathering. His presence brought stature to that group in the community as well.

I bring Tom's family news that his/your names were lifted up at First Congregational UCC in Grand Ledge this morning during the worship service and prayers were offered for his family during this special season of the sadness of his passing.

Sincerely,

Bill Amundsen

[...] The mood at the weekly peace vigil on Friday in front of the Michigan State Capitol Building was somber, to say the least. In frigid, 23-degree weather, only the heart-warming stories of Tom’s life’s works helped bring smiles to people’s faces. The stories were many and varied — and each story depended on when or where the person knew Tom. The Peace Corps, VISTA, and his worldwide travels were mentioned. Also mentioned was his co-founding of the Abrahamic Community in East Lansing, as well as a local homeless shelter and soup kitchen decades ago. Others talked about Haven House and his work reading books for the WKAR’s Talking Book program. He was known as a farmer, environmentalist, and caregiver. As the current Bath Township Supervisor, Tom was a local elected official. His life’s works are beautifully described in his obituary here.
Peace & justice for all? Where is the peace & justice for the 9/11 victims? And you talk about war endangering human rights......well, the human rights were endangering gravely on 9/11, w/3000+ murdered at the hands of the very terrorists, you say we should peacefully negotiate with. What about the 9/11 victims' rights? Who's going to honor those?
We don't agree, but going to war is not always illegal or unjustified. As with Pearl Harbor, we defended ourselves and honored those killed, by expecting Japan to answer for what they did. When a country is attacked and some killed, ANY country would defend itself and take action against the country that attacked them.
I'll say it again.....you can not have peace without freedom. Many middle eastern countries have brutal dictators that murder their own. You march for peace, but don't seem concerned about the safety of people around the world. Where's you compassion for them?
As far as security.......it is the military we have that keeps us secure. Someone needs to pt out to you (all) that if not for our military & FBI, we would have had more than just one "9/11" attack. They are the reason we've not had another. How can you deny that?

As far as war damaging the economy........FDR put millions to work, during and after WWII, (include nearly every woman), & many of those businesses stayed open after the close of @WWII. My mother worked in one of those factories, and she & my dad told me many times how they were proud to live in the U.S., among a generation of people who stood side by side and (all) pulled for the same reasons.........to ensure our support for a military that fought for our rights. Those very rights you tout.
The war in Afghanistan was not illegal or unjust. We only went in there to locate the terrorists responsible for 9/11 & the profound loss of 3000+ humans in this country. It isn't just that you don't agree w/that action........Congress voted yes on it. That made it legal. And unjust? Unjust was what was done to our country on 9/11.
I respect your goal of peace............ALL of us want it, not just you, but you can not stand by and have something like 9/11 and then hide your head in the dirt. That would mean all the lives lost on 9/11, was in vain.
While you are continuing to be concern about human rights and peace, I'd like to know what your stand is on what to do with the daily threat of retaliation by the terrorists, who, much to your lack of common sense, do NOT want to negotiate with anyone. Read the Koran. That would give you some idea of what they are about. And, I can guarantee you, it isn't peace.

I realize that this specific situation is going on in Michigan, not Wisconsin. I apologize for my error, but my sentiment is extended to the good people of Michigan as my previous statement. This situation in Michigan is jaw droppingly frightening. Keep pushing back!!
