Social Media for the “Experienced“ Activist: Led by Kelsey Brianne Hudson, Community Organizer, Artist and Storyteller.

KEYNOTE: History and Context of the Current Crisis (3 - 4:30 PM)

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Salah Hassan, Associate Professor in the MSU Department of English and Director of Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities Program, and a core faculty member in the Muslim Studies Program. This presentation uses the before/after motif in photography to explore Palestinian presence in historic Palestine and the transformations wrought by Zionist colonial conquest. The talk examines archival photos of the initial impact of partition on large parts of historic Palestine which is followed by a discussion of Jean Mohr’s photos of Palestinians remaking their world in different diasporic locations, and concludes with analysis of the images of Gaza before and after the ongoing Israeli attacks.
