2026 Doomsday Clock Announcement

2026 Doomsday Clock Announcement
The Doomsday Clock is a metaphor for how close humanity is to self-destruction, and a warning meant to spur action on the most urgent, human-made global threats.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists will announce the 2026 setting of the Doomsday Clock during a live news conference in Washington on Tuesday, January 27th. In January 2025, the Clock was set at 89 seconds to midnight, the closest it has ever been in its 78-year history.

The announcement will feature Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Maria Ressa, along with leading experts in nuclear risk, climate change, biological threats, and disruptive technologies (like AI). The Clock’s time is determined by the Bulletin’s Science and Security Board, in consultation with its Board of Sponsors, which includes Nobel Laureates.
